Innovation at its finest!

In recognizing the greatest innovations across multiple categories, GMC’s Super Cruise has been given a top nod as the best hands-free system out there! Named among the recipients of “Best of What’s New” by the digital publication Popular Science, the Super Cruise has been touted as resulting in making the world a better place!

The first truly hands-free driver assistant technology, Super Cruise utilizes real-time cameras, sensors, GPS and LiDAR map data to aid in detecting curves and turns. It also boasts automatic lane changing or hands-free trailering on more than 400,000 miles of compatible roads in the United States and Canada.

Super Cruise is not just for handling curves and travel speeds. It can also assist in changing lanes when traveling on compatible roads, automatically initiating turns when suitable openings are detected. To wait for that opening, the Super Cruise will even slow the car down to a minimum gap distance until it is time to switch lanes.

Super Cruise earned their kudos through Popular Science’s Automotive category, with Popular Science consistently recognizing worldwide innovations annually since 1988, reaching their determination after reviewing thousands of products and conducting extensive research on inventions large and small.

The benefits of Super Cruise are realized on such vehicles as the 2022 and 2023 HUMMER EV Pickup, the 2023 and 2022 Sierra 1500 Denali and Denali Ultimate, as well as the 2023 Yukon, Yukon XL, Denali and Denali Ultimate trims.

In awarding the designation, Popular Science noted that Super Cruise strikes a perfect balance between hands-free driving assistance and safety, a crucial component to the technology. The automaker achieves that balance through the use of a network of laser-scanned highways at 10 times the accuracy of a GPS map and with a full suite of cameras, including ultrasonic, radar and infrared. As important and beneficial as its operation is, so is the feature when it won’t operate, with Super Cruise disabling the system for the entire drive if the driver looks away for too long or if a road is unmapped. It also stops operating when the vehicle’s data connection goes dark or any number of failure points so as to keep the driver engaged at all times.

Super Cruise was chosen from among 100 innovations for the contest that spans 10 categories. Those include Aerospace, Engineering, Gadgets, Health, Entertainment, Personal Care, Emergency Services and Defense, Sports and Outdoors and Home.

To earn this designation, the innovation must have a positive impact in various ways on people’s lives. The Super Cruise surely fits the bill, allowing drivers ease on the open road as well as confidence in the safety components directly linked to the technology.

A true hands-free experience while on the open road, GMC’s Super Cruise has you covered and now the world knows it too thanks to this recent accolade. Considered the industry’s first true hands-free driver assistance technology for compatible roads and functions, Super Cruise is innovation at its finest
