New Engine Updates for the 2024 GMC Sierra

Here it roar!
Change is in the air — specifically for the off-road trim in the Sierra lineup! In addition to a new name, the 2024 Sierra AT4X, once equipped with a single engine option, gets Duramax Diesel Power as standard! This, on top of a refreshed interior, makes for a great choice for today’s driver. This is also a direct result of costumers requesting and clamoring for the diesel option. Their request has been granted! This 3.0-liter Duramax I-6 turbodiesel engine comes standard on the AT 4X and remains optional on all trims with the exception of the base Sierra Pro. See what this new power option — and other changes — are all about!
Here’s more!

All about the Duramax!
Updated in 2023, the 3.0-liter Duramax, coming to the AT4X, features new steel pistons, a re-tuned turbo compressor, new fuel injectors and improved thermal management features. With these additions came more power — 10 percent more horsepower to be exact and 7 percent increase in torque! This translated into 305 hp and 495 lb-ft. of torque. This torque comes in especially handy for all the off-roaders out there! This is a major change from the former single engine option, which was GMC’s premier 420-hp, 6.2-liter V-8.
Many are gravitating toward the Duramax, checking the box when buying a Sierra 1500 since this upgraded engine was released for the 2023 model year. That was also when new trims were offered, including the SLE, Elevation, SLT and Denali trims.

All about the TurboMax!
In terms of the smaller inline engine, which is GMC’s 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, it, too, received a torque increase from 348 lb-ft to 430 lb-ft when the 2022 Sierra had a refresh. Its name also changed at that time to Turbo High-Output. For the 2024 model, another name change happened, with this inline-four now being aptly called the TurboMax. It is available for the Sierra Pro, Elevation and SLE trims. This new name is also headed to the Chevrolet Silverado.

All about the V-8!
GMC’s 6.2-liter V-8 is getting some changes as well! New for the 2024 model is an available active exhaust system for the SLT, Denali, Denali Ultimate, AT 4 and AT4X. Thanks to engineering, a throatier exhaust note for drivers is realized and is brought forth through the different driving modes. Those are “Normal, Tow/Haul and Sport.” Besides this, no other output availability changes were noted for either the 5.3-liter or the 6.2-liter V-8 engines.
In addition to the new engine updates were some styling changes! Those include two new and exciting exterior color options, which are Downpour Metallic and Thunderstorm Gray, a pair of new aluminum wheels and new power retractable assist steps. These steps will be available for the Denali, Denali Ultimate, AT4 and AT4X trims. These are on the Denali, Denali Ultimate, AT 4 and AT 4X.
A Diesel option serves many drivers’ requests and is among the many powerful, key changes to the Sierra heading into 2024! See what this power means for you — especially as drivers head to off-road on their next adventure! Here it roar, and reserve yours today!
