Doubling down!

Change is in the air – and for the better! In fact, GM’s most recent announcement carries two times the charm – General Motors has announced not only a series of updates for the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, but also is highlighting a lower price and higher range-per-charge estimate on top of its rising capabilities. Similar to those applied to the Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition, these upgrades also include a higher tow and payload rating for the all-electric Sierra pick up. The news just keeps getting better!

Here’s more…

What we know!

Leading to the price cut, back in October, 2022, GM announced that its Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 would carry a price tag of about $107,000. That figure was excluding the destination freight charge. In new updates, however, GM states that the same Sierra will start at just under $100,000 – $99,495 to be exact – including $1,995 for DFC. This represents a nice price reduction of about $9,500.

There’s more… In addition to this price cut, GM has given the range-per-charge estimate a boost, taking the previously estimated 400 miles per charge to 440 miles, for a 10 percent increase.

In the area of payload, there’s also good news! The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 now has a towing capacity rated at a maximum of 10,000 pounds, which is an increase of 500 pounds compared to initial guesses. Meanwhile, payload capacity has also increased to 1,450 pounds, for a boost of 150 pounds compared to previous estimates.

Motivating all this good news are GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motors, which deliver upwards of a whopping 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in Max Power mode. The all-electric model also supports quick-charge capabilities, with up to 100 miles of range that gets replenished in about 10 minutes with the use of a 350kW fast charger.

All of these updates put the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 in line with its Chevy Silverado EV RST counterpart, with now the highest-possible spec for GMC’s latest battery-powered truck realized. The top RST trim, which also received a bump in range and a price cut, is scheduled as well for delivery this summer like the Denali. Dealers will start to take orders this month!

Other facts!

When it comes to the top-of-the-line range for EV trucks, the Chevy Silverado EV 4WT, with its 450 miles of range, takes the cake! It is followed by the Silverado EV RST and the Denali Edition 1. Next, the Rivian R1T Dual-Motor with the Max Pack battery has a range of up to 410

miles, while the GMC Hummer EV 3X gets to a max range of 381 miles. That is followed by the Tesla Cypertruck AWD at a manufacturer-estimated range of about 340 miles.

Everything else stays the same with the Denali Edition 1, which will be made available in limited numbers as a luxury-centered vehicle with four-wheel steering.

The Denali Edition 1 will also feature CrabWalk, originally debuted in the Hummer and which allows the vehicle to travel diagonally at low speeds. This aids the driver in avoiding obstacles while off-roading.

Details related to the truck’s battery pack is not yet revealed, although it is expected that the Sierra EV will use the same 800-volt, 24-module pack as the GMC Hummer EV and Chevy Silverado EV. When it comes to recharging, the Sierra EV has the capability of accepting up to 350 kW from a compatible fast charger, thus enabling it to add about 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes!

Other standard features on the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 include the MultiPro Midgate, which is the divider between the passenger compartment and the bed. With the midgate and tailgate open at the same time, the Sierra EV has the capacity to carry items that are nearly 11 feet long!

Also standard is air suspension, with other key features like SuperCruise, the hands-free advanced driver assistant system, presented as optional.

The only downside in light of this incredibly positive news is that concerning the Sierra’s delivery timeframe. Instead of this year, customers will start receiving their Edition 1 trucks this summer, with the entire run already sold out. It is uncertain how many total will be built, as well as the availability of other trim levels moving forward.

A lower price and higher range estimate – what could be better? For the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, the updates are not only exciting but the automaker is doubling down with the benefits. See what’s in store, and reserve yours today!
