GMC HUMMER EV

What was once a name of the past is now making its way to forefront — and there is so much in store! Hummer, a decade-dormant brand name, is coming soon and in an entirely new form! General Motors has unveiled the plan — and it’s a good one! They have confirmed that they will be presenting it in an all-electric vehicle, a power monster truck called the GMC Hummer EV. This vehicle will be sold through GMC and is poised to be the most powerful GM has ever presented. It has aptly earned super truck status and leads a quiet revolution of sorts. Jay Buick GMC located on Rockside road in Bedford Ohio understands their commitment to success. Similar to the Jay Buick GMC specials in Bedford, Jay Buick GMC wants to peak your interest in a new vehicle.

Although all the details have yet to be revealed, this truck boasts an all-wheel-drive electric powertrain putting forth 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. Drivers will have the ability to take the Hummer from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3 seconds, a statistic that rivals even Tesla’s upcoming Cypertruck!

“It’s a combination of an incredibly capable truck and a supercar,” Phil Brook, GMW Vice president of marketing, said. “It’s an all-electric super truck!”

Fittingly, the Hummer EV will be featured in a Super Bowl advertisement starring powerhouse LeBron James, who once owned a Hummer and therefore has a connection.

The Hummer EV is expected to go into production in the fall of 2021, and what we know so far is extremely exciting! For example, teaser videos show a new iteration of Hummer’s well-known slotted grille with “Hummer” backlit across the front of the truck. The truck is being branded as a “quiet revolution,” playing on the quietness linked with electric vehicles and the performance of the Hummer EV. This is also the title of the Super Bowl ad!

Its background….
It was in 2010 that production of the Hummer stopped, but its decline dates further back. The Hummer brand was discontinued as part of GM’s 2009 bankruptcy which swirled around stalling sales, high gas prices and an anti-environmentally friendly reputation for polluting the planet. As such, GM has no plans to build a gas-powered Hummer with an internal combustion engine. They have put the “gas guzzler” reputation to bed, and instead will bring forth an all-electric super truck with massive horsepower, acceleration and torque.

The previous Hummer brand by GM included an SUV and a short-lived pickup variant. This design was based on the military vehicle referred to as the Humvee. The Hummer had a rise in popularity during the early 2000s, but was also a source of criticism due to its size and unimpressive gas mileage, which was around 15 mph.

What we know…
GMC has not yet indicated if the truck will be a pick up or an SUV, but it is confirmed to be built at the Detroit-Hamtramck factory that GM has earmarked for electric vehicle production. From the few images that have thus far been released, the new Hummer EV is stylin! It features a take on the Hummer’s familiar seven-slot grille design with a full-width light bar embedded into it. Also, three soft amber lights can be seen on the roof, similar to the Hummer H2, which suggests that the new EV could possibly be a medium-duty class truck.

The GMC Hummer EV is set to be part of an all-new lineup of all-electric pickups and SUVs for GM that will extend across brand lines and price ranges. In all, GM will invest $3 billion for the production of these vehicles.

The Hummer EV is expected to add to the brand’s profits and customer base and common high transaction prices as a lifestyle pickup.

“I think there is an opportunity for us not just to extend where GMC is today from a customer base but also bring new customers in who hadn’t considered us before as well,” Mr. Brook said.

This is not the V8-powered SUV from the past. It’s fully electric and features both on- and off-road capabilities. This will represent the first electric truck for GM.

“GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC Hummer EV takes this to new heights,” Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC said. “We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising.”

Details to come…..
Details still forthcoming include such things as battery capacity, charging and price. More will be revealed this spring. This vehicle will come with zero emissions and zero limits. It is truly in a class by itself! It will have the potential for housing a huge battery pack under its floor, and it is expected that the Hummer EV will come with a battery big enough to offer a driving range of at least 300 miles.

It is expected to be presented with two electric motors — one in front and one in the rear, which will enable all-wheel-drive and an extremely punchy acceleration. A variety of Hummer EV variants could be offered as well, each featuring increased payload or towing capacities. The EV will be presented with massive pulling power.

It is unknown what kind of fuel economy this vehicle would offer, and its cab configurations have not yet been announced. That being said, it is expected that GM will skip regular- and extended-cab body styles and render the Hummer EV only as a four-door crew cab. It is hoped that this all-new version will feature two spacious rows of seating along with practical touches, including large storage bins, throughout the cabin.

A high-tech touchscreen interface is also expected to go hand in hand with the tech-forward EV powertrain. A host of connectivity features should also be presented as standard, including Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability, a Wi-Fi hotspot and GMs OnStar telematics system.

The new electric truck will also undoubtedly include GMs Super Cruise System as well as features such as lane-keeping assist and blind-spot monitoring.

Stay tuned as the Hummer reincarnates as an Electric GMC Pickup packed with power and modern features. It is back, better than ever and a true Super Truck!
