Buick’s electric future has a name – Electra – and an exciting one it is! Representing the first of the Buick Electra lineup, and the first Ultium-based EV, the 2025 Electra E5 SUV, starting at $50,000 and planned to be sold in China, will deliver both performance and a spacious cabin within, on top of leading technology. What we know!

Described as a beautiful vehicle, the Electra is equally powerful, expected to make 340 horsepower and around 300 miles of driving range per charge. It is powered by General Motors’ Ultium battery platform, and is expected to deliver similar performance and driving range as the Cadillac Syriq.

The Chinese model, premiering this summer as the Envista, boasts Buick’s new design language based on the Wildcat EV coupe sports car concept, complete with slim DRLs above split headlight units on either side of a large graphic grille. There is also a heavily sloped coupe-like roofline, with the Electra one of the first global models to wear the all-new tri-shield Buick badging.

Inside, a spacious cabin and an overall impressive interior is found and completed with stylish touches, as well as upscale materials. Two rows of seats provide seating for up to five, with multicolored ambient lighting adding a special touch and “feel” within. With this 121-color surround ambient lighting, users can anticipate a sensational light show with dynamic effects that are coupled with music and rhythms. The space at rear is also quite generous and accommodating!

“The interior of the Electra E5 really captures the Buick brand’s PURE design philosophy, with clean and sculptural surfacing, excellence in details and seamlessly integrated technology,” Matt Noone, executive director of SAIC-GM PATAC Design, stated. “Buick customers have an appreciation for the brand’s sculptural beauty and sophisticated execution.”

“The Electra E5 stays true to what Buick design stands for, representing an exciting evolution in the era of electrification,” he continued. “It will stand out in its segment and resonate strongly with mainstream EV buyers.”

In an effort to immerse passengers in what is truly a premium experience, there is a curved and massive segment-only EYEMAX 30.0-inch freeform infotainment display, the same technology

utilized within the Cadillac Escalade, and which stretches most of the Electra E5’s dashboard. The screen is expected to be touch sensitive on the right side, where the infotainment features are located.

Driver and passenger alike will also enjoy Buick’s all–new virtual cockpit system as well as a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, which will be standard, as well as most likely Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There may also be a wireless smartphone charging pad, as well as an optional Bose premium stereo system.

The Electra E5 runs the latest generation of the Buick eConnect connectivity system, which provides access to customers to massive multimedia content with built-in apps. This results in both a more convenient and a more interactive user experience thanks to upgraded intelligent voice commands, customized configurations and individual recommendations.

An overall smart cockpit is supported by the cutting-edge VIP electric architecture, with the Electra E5 also empowered by a Qualcoomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.

A starting price of $50,000 can jump to $70,000, depending on the trim level and options. While details are still being determined, the base model of the Electra will most likely be the Preferred trim, with a mid-range Essence adding more luxurious features. A range topping Avenir will boast the most perks, as well as the biggest price tag!
