A sneak peek at the new GMC Terrain
Catchin’ a glimpse!
A complete overhaul in the areas of both design and engineering marks the 2025 GMC Terrain, a sneak peek of which has been revealed! Representing the first model year of the all-new, third-generation compact crossover SUV, there is much to expect! With various trim levels, each with their own offerings, to a complete overhaul of the exterior, to call it “the most beautiful” SUV out there is right on target! See what’s in store in 2025!
Here’s more…..
For starters, the model line of the Terrain represents a much better execution of the AT4 off-road oriented trim, with even better off-road performance to match is ultra-rugged looks! A potential addition of Elevation as trim is also expected and will replace the SLE and SLT moving forward!
On the outside, the Terrain has seen much change, including in overall size and footprint, which is similar to the current, second-gen model, but with a slightly longer wheelbase. A more expressive design is noted in this 2025 model, featuring more of an upright shape than its predecessor. A more prominent execution of GMC’s C-shaped signature headlight is found here, as are C-Shaped tail lights and dual exhaust. On the AT4 trim level are Knobby General Grabber AT tires, with a more eloquent wheel design presented across all models, especially the Elevation and AT4.
Inside, the Terrain is also ever-changing, with a complete overhaul of what is now a roomy, modern cabin, as well as better ergonomics and more usable space presented. Driver and passengers alike enjoy a revamped gauge cluster featuring an 11-inch diagonal fully instrument panel offered as standard. An all-new and revamped infotainment system is also a new addition, boasting a 15-inch portrait-oriented screen and new software. New and improved active safety (ADAS) features, including Super Cruise semi-autonomous highway assistant, is another key add on, as is a new steering wheel and new colors and materials.
Mechanically, the overhaul continues, with the 2025 GMC Terrain based on the D2-2 architecture and featuring an updated version of the GM D2 platform used by the second-generation Terrain. That same platform, incidentally, will be used by the 2025 Chevy Equinox. The Terrain will be powered by the same turbocharged 1.5L I-4 LSD engine as the outgoing model, making 175-hp with front or all wheel drive, but with new transmissions. For example, the FWD models get the new Continuously Variable Transmission or CVT with the AWD models getting a new 8-speed automatic transmission. Adoption of GM’s Global B electronic architecture is also found with this new model, thus allowing over-the-air or OTA updates to systems and components.
It is expected that the new Terrain, starting at $31,000 and the latest GMC SUV to receive a ruggedness makeover, will be produced exclusively and solely at the GM San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico, with that production slated to begin in mid-2024. Excitingly, the first units will begin to arrive later this year.
The compact end of the truck maker’s lineup, the Terrain and this sneak peek are all things exhilarating! Bolder and more modern, with various trim options boasting many key features, the Terrain may be your next best choice. Catch a glimpse, and reserve yours today!
