2020 BUICK ENCORE GX

Power packed
Powered by two different turbocharged three-cylinder engines, the GX has a base version that is a 1.2-liter which develops 137 horsepower. That is followed by an option 1.3-liter that makes 155 ponies. The former pairs perfectly with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. Drivers don’t have to look to fancier models for more powerful engines. That is because it is available on every Encore GX with all-wheel-drive. The slightly bigger engine exclusively uses a nine-speed automatic transmission, resulting in a smooth ride and great handling overall. Front-wheel drive is standard, but both engine choices offer an all-wheel-drive option. Its performance is spot on, with this newer model posting efficiency at every turn. And while the brand did not specify fuel economy figures, it estimates one powertrain combo will return up to 31 miles per gallon. In fact, any Encore GX with AWD will have a toggle switch to put the crossover into a FWD mode when drivers want to prioritize fuel economy over traction.

Breaking the mold
When it comes to breaking the mold, the Encore GX does just that in the area of active safety technology. Standard safety and driver assistance features include a laundry list beginning with Front Pedestrian Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. It will also boast the Enclave’s innovative Rear Camera Mirror, which provides a wide, less obstructed rear view while parking and driving, and High Definition Surround Vision camera system. Other key safety features include emergency braking with pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control.

Staying connected
GM’s latest infotainment software can be found in the GX, which is extremely intuitive and allows drivers to be connected when they need it most. The Infotainment System supports a seamlessly integrated touchscreen that will come standard with features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. A head-up display is an available option and drivers can also choose a high-definition 360-degree camera system if they choose! The display ensures that drivers have a clear view of key information. They can simply look ahead at the road, and view the information displayed conveniently and safely in their field of vision. There is also a wireless charging pad that helps keep your smartphone powered at all times and your cabin clutter-free. An ability to pair two Bluetooth phones at one time rounds out the offerings. Your drive will be connected in every way and entertaining thanks to these in-vehicle experiences.

Nod to practicality
Practicality was a high priority when it came to the creation of the GX, with various aspects of the vehicle a clear means to ease, comfort and the needs of every day drivers. For example, the rear seats and front passenger seat all fold flat and a two-level cargo hold can be adjusted to allow for ample storage space or to create a flat load floor. The practicality and functionality also are made clear in an interior design that is luxurious in many ways. For example, there is available leather-trimmed seats and a heated steering wheel. Sound-deadening glass and triple-sealed doors help minimize noise. All of these features are perfectly practical yet extremely functional and appealing!

It’s got the look
A provocative design with a distinctly athletic tone can be found in the new 5-door GX which features a wide stance, wide grille and bold LED headlights that highlight the front end. Drivers desiring a bit more of a dramatic look may opt for the ST model, which will be presented with a black mesh grille and red accents, body-color molding and trim-exclusive wheels. The GX has an interior that holds more appeal than the Encore as well as presents a more modern infotainment system. The inside is offered in a two-toned color scheme and has an overall quiet, comfortable feel. There is also leather upholstery, heated seats and ample space for the passenger. This new crossover is the perfect combination of luxury and mainstream.

Its launch
The Encore GX was introduced in November, 2019, at the Los Angeles Auto Show in preparation for its 2020 debut! It will be launched in three trims: Preferred, Select and Essence. A Sport Touring Package will be available on all trims, with body-colored moldings and a custom grille and wheels, but no mechanical upgrades.

Sport Touring Package
Available on all trims, a Sport Touring Package presented with the GX puts a sporty spin that is truly eye-catching! Striking design cues include a high-gloss black grille with red accents, body-colored font and rear bumpers and body-colored lower cladding. Premium color choices for the exterior come in shades of metallic including such vibrant hues as chili red and dark moon blue, among others. Also standard on this package is integrated roof rails to enable drivers to bring all they need along for the ride on that next great road trip. A black roof package is available, giving off a striking and distinctive look. The black roof along with the black mirrors and roof rails is as bold as it gets!
